My Sister’s Keeper

I will be honest, when I first saw this scripture, it was on a day when all I needed was to know how to bear my own burdens. The last thing I wanted to hear was about sharing someone else’s load when my own was too heavy for me.

But that is exactly the point. None of us was made to bear our own loads alone. Neither were we made to ever be load free before sharing another’s load.

We were made to be in relationship and community, a ‘we’ and an ‘us’ rather than a ‘me’ and an ‘I’ all the time.

God himself is always a relational God. His chosen expression of Himself and definition of Himself is through love. True love gives to another out of what belongs to self whether it is only a little or in abundance. Anything you keep to and for yourself dies with you, the minute you consume it but the part of you that you give to others, be it family, strangers, the needy, the poor, to a cause or an agenda will always live beyond you and your control and your world.

Until further notice, share everything. Even in your pain, there is a blessing or a lesson you can share that will bless others.

You will find that the best way to lighten your own load is to set it aside for a moment and get into someone else’s world and share their load, lighten their load, bring them relief, laughter, solution, joy, cry with them, sit in silence with them, pray with them even if you can do so only for a moment. Ironically, doing so does not often increase your own load but rather increases your stamina and faith that help is on the way for you too.

It is also God’s way of providing relief for you because setting aside your own burden for a moment is a way of trusting Him and casting it onto Him and registering your need and request for help to the divine reservoir because the giver always receives.

God never promised us that we will be burdenless. In fact He tells us to carry our cross daily and follow Him. However He also tells us to cast our burdens unto him when we are weary and heavy laden and He will give us rest but also that He will exchange our heavy load for a lighter one. He said His burden which He wants us to share in is light and His yoke is easy. People are always on God’s mind. When you share the load of others, He is the third factor that joins in to bear and lighten your load and a threefold cord is not easily broken.

May God help you today as you give and help others. May He give you rest and lighten your burden and soothe your troubles in Jesus Christ’s name.

Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. – Galatians 6:2 KJV
